Aloha
Students in the Aloha area are served by the Beaverton School District. In recent testing, the district as a whole scored significantly higher than the state averages in both reading and mathematics. The district's high schools are known for having low dropout rates and high percentages of graduates who go on to college. There are also numerous institutions of higher learning in the area, including several campuses of the Portland Community College, Oregon State University and Portland State University.

As part of unincorporated Washington County, Aloha residents rely on many of the services and facilities in nearby Beaverton. The city's mall is just a short drive away and features a variety of shops and restaurants. And thanks to the area's excellent transportation system, all the amenities of Portland are also within easy reach. Portland and Beaverton have been linked together by the Westside Light Rail, which was opened in 1998, and two major highways with numerous connections.

Aloha has several local parks -- including Aloha, Alohawood, Meliliah and Pheasant -- that provide various recreational opportunities for local residents. The nearby Tualatin Hills Nature Park, a 219-acre wildlife reserve located in the heart of Beaverton, offers five miles of trails and also a nature center for tours and other activities.

Washington County has a rich history. Native Americans inhabited the valley for thousands of years. In the 1830s, a malaria epidemic all but eliminated the native population and left the valley open to settlement. The reports of explorers and missionaries in the area sparked a growing immigration of American settlers to the heart of the Oregon Territory, the Tualatin Valley. The first settlers came in the late 1830s and early '40s. A provisional government was formed in 1843.

The next major push in the population happened after World War II. Washington County became the primary destination of thousands of new families and many new industries. Currently, the county is the second most populous in the state and continues to be an area of dynamic change and growth.
